We’re excited to (finally) announce the version 6 firmware for ARPIE. This fixes a few bugs and adds a couple of new features (improved pattern layer 2 editing, continuous random mode, patch clear and external clock resync buttons). Now thats all well and good, but by far the most exciting change is support for the new CV TAB daughter board!
CV TAB fits snugly inside the ARPIE case, attaching to the ‘hack header’ expansion port. It adds 3 new sockets to the ARPIE – CV out (1V/Oct and Hz/V supported, with per-step selectable pitch glide) , Gate out (10V) and Clock out (10V, can be assigned as an accent trigger instead).
With CV TAB, your ARPIE becomes the perfect companion to your vintage analog synth or Eurorack modular system, with or without an attached MIDI keyboard. As always ARPIE is much more than just an arpeggiator; with its manual chord entry, transpose sequencing and force to scale features it becomes a proper palm sized sequencing powerhouse!
As if that was not enough, CV TAB also features a memory chip that adds 16 patch memories to the ARPIE. Save snapshots of the entire ARPIE state and recall them with a button press, without skipping a beat. The patches are saved when power is off.
CV TAB comes fully assembled and tested and can be purchased for GBP 32 from our web store.
The version 6 firmware works with all previous ARPIE kits and can be downloaded for free from our GitHub site. A USB programmer is required to program the new firmware to ARPIE.
Alternatively you can purchase a pre-programmed replacement microcontroller chip (GBP 8) with the new firmware, which can easily be fitted in the ARPIE.
Or get a new ARPIE as a DIY kit, including V6 firmware, here.
Check out the new ARPIE manual here, and the full list of changes in version 6 here.
Next up, we’re excited to tell you about a new product we have in the works, which should be available soon…
NOODLEBOX is a four part step sequencer with CV and Gate out for each part, plus MIDI output and sync.
Each part has four pages of up to 32 steps each, and these pages can play in sequence, in any order, or be cued manually. Each part has its own clock settings, loop points, voltage scaling, gate length etc. and each step has probability and retrig settings. Parts can modulate each other for transposition sequencing, mictrotonal offsetting and complex polyrhythmic patterns.
NOODLEBOX is a compact desktop device with fast, hands-on controls. We call it a Serendipity Sequencer… its not going to replace your DAW, but if you are a musician who likes jamming with your synth, finding the beautiful unexpected that can emerge from random knob twiddling, NOODLEBOX could be your new best friend 🙂
If you would like to be one of the first to know when NOODLEBOX is available, please drop us an email at noodlebox /AT/ six4pix /DOT/ com. We will only reply to messages to this email address to answer questions or let you know about NOODLEBOX updates. There is no obligation to purchase the product once it is available.
We anticipate a selling price of around GBP220 and availability around the start of 2020
