This is an add-on for my ARPIE kit, and it plugs into the “hack header” expansion socket on the ARPIE main board. It comes fully assembled and tested and adds the following functions to your ARPIE…
– A 1V/octave pitch control voltage (CV) output with 0-8V range and pitch glide between “tied” notes
– A note gate/trigger output at ~10V
– A clock output at ~10V, switchable between 16th note and 8th note steps. Optionally use the output as an accent trigger instead.
– 8kB of EEPROM, enough to store 16 “snapshots” of ARPIE state (even when powered off) for instant patch recall
– LED indicators that blink with gate and clock signals
The 10V clock/gate pulses are generated by an on-board charge pump circuit, even when running ARPIE from a 9V battery or 9V DC supply. 10V is the voltage level output by equipment such as Beatstep Pro and SQ-1 and can be used with Eurorack modular gear or vintage synths.
To be able to use the CVTAB with your ARPIE, you will need firmware version 6. If you purchased your ARPIE from 26 Sep 2019 this will have version 6 firmware pre-installed.
For older ARPIEs you can update the firmware yourself if you have a USB TTL programmer (see below), otherwise you can purchase a replacement microcontroller chip pre-programmed with the version 6 firmware.
When the CVTAB board is installed, the CV, gate and clock outputs are accessed on the right hand side of the ARPIE. If you have your ARPIE in a case, this will block access to the connections on the CVTAB. For the new style ARPIE case (with white side cheeks, NOT the older clear case) a replacement side panel and end cheek with the appropriate cutouts is available as an optional extra.
Please note that only one “tab” board can be installed on the ARPIE at a time. If you already have a SYNCTAB or CONTROLTAB board installed you will need to remove it to install the CVTAB.
